For the advanced manufacture of die plates and blanking punches with eroding machines , the selection of the right material is of great significance. Material left over from other processes are often used for the production of punches, whose structures (grain pattern) are unknown as well as the residual stress resulting from precious machining. The correct heat treatment is a further problem that cannot be always applied on the company's own premises. This will lead to reduced operation of the finished tool, frequent rework, shorter service life and increased rejects in case of severe defects. This gap in material supply is filled by eroding blocks made of 1.2379 (X 155 Cr V Mo 12 1), vacuum-hardened or annealed, available from stock as standard ground design in a wide range of dimensions. Tool insert holes are machined according to the customer's requirements, custom-made designs are available at short notice. The selection of the right material for the specific purpose ensures that the material grain typically runs in cutting direction. With sophisticated vacuum-hardening technology combined with three-fold tempering, a semi-finished product is obtained that features optimal hardness and low residual austenite. |
