- your specifications, our expert advice

Recknagel Präzisionsstahl GmbH offer 40 years of experience in the manufacture of hardened guide bars and components ready to be installed according to your specifications.

Hardly any other area of mechanical machine elements can compare with the immense progress made in the sector of guide systems in the past. Scraped bronze or grey cast iron guides that were general practice in former times have given way to today's hardened guideways made of tool steel. Extreme rigidity and optimal vibration and absorbing behaviour are significant features of these hardened guideways.

Depending on the design, our guide systems are suitable both for sliding and rolling contact. They are usually mounted with screws, clamps or bonding material. This enables us to offer you the suitable guiding system for your specific application. Just send us your drawing or CAD file (IGES/VDA-FS/DWG/DXF). If still in the planning stage, call for our advice without any obligation on your side.

Since we supply to the special purpose machinery manufacture, we are also used to produce small batches, however are prepared to supply large quantities at any time. For this purpose we maintain a large stock of basic material.

We attain tolerances of 0.01 mm for flatness, straightness and angularity (also on the face sides for continuous installation). Material hardness of up to 60 ±2 HRc and roughness of Ra = 1µm for fine grinding and Ra = 4µm for cross-grinding can be guaranteed. The guides are typically fully hardened and also case-hardened, vacuum-hardened or induction-hardened on request. Tempered or nitrided surfaces are also customary. For boring distances of hardened guide bars, tolerances of 1‰ relative to the length are standard practice.

We always process the most suitable tool steel tailored to your needs and will be glad to offer you our assistance in selecting the right material. We recommend 1.2842 for fully-hardened guideways up to 40 mm thickness (a) and 1.2363 for larger cross-sections. For further information about these steels see our Steel Glossary under the section materials. Of course we also process the full range of tool steels, QT-steels and case hardening steels.
