Cold work tool steel for the manufacture of punching dies, thread rolling dies as well as shear blades and hardened guide bars with large cross-sections.

The material A2 fills the gap between the types O2 and D2. Similar to O2 it can be machined easily. Compared to D2, even the grinding of hardened components can be performed without any difficulties. But similar to D2, A2 provides excellent conditions for vacuum-hardening. In addition, A2 is less expensive than D2 and is used when O2 cannot meet the requirements on wear resistance or full-hardening with D2 not yet being needed. For frequently occurring applications we recommend comparative tests with the various materials.

This material is available as precision ground flat steel, as flat raw material, as hardened, ready-to-install guide bars according to your drawing and as semi-finished products according to your specifications.

A2 can be machined easily and accepts a hardness of maximum 63 HRc. An excellent wear resistance can be achieved by secondary hardening. Also large-dimensioned component cross-sections can be full-hardened with ease. Therefore A2 is the most suitable material for hardened guide bars with a thickness of more than 40 mm.
